Anniversary Questions for Couples
Celebrate another milestone together. Take time over dinner to reflect on where you started, how you've grown, and where you're going.
An anniversary is one of the few evenings where a reflective question does not need any justification. These are written for a long dinner, in the order a good anniversary conversation tends to go: the year that just happened, what it taught you, and what you want the next one to hold. Take one per course if you want the evening to have a shape.
The year behind us
Start with the specifics of the last twelve months while they are still fresh enough to remember properly.

What we have learned
The reflective middle. These ask what the relationship has taught each of you, which is a different question from what happened.

- 16How has our definition of happiness changed since we first met?
- 17What is something about me that you appreciate more today than when we started dating?

The year ahead
Finish forward. An anniversary that ends with a shared intention is the one you will both refer back to.

Questions about these questions
- How do we use these on the night itself?
- One per course. It gives the evening a structure without turning it into an exercise, and it stops the whole list being worked through in the first twenty minutes.
- What if the year was a difficult one?
- The first section handles that directly — 'what was the hardest month, and what got us through it' is often the most valuable question on the page after a hard year. Skip anything that would ring false.
- Should we write the answers down?
- Some couples ask the same handful every year and keep the answers. Read last year's before you start; watching the answers change is usually more affecting than the answers themselves.
